Medical Cover
MEDICAL COVER
All public events (ticketed or free) must have medical cover of some discription. The level of cover that is required will be worked out using the purple guide from the HSE. This takes into account the type of event, the audience expected, location, nearest hospitals and the time of year. As with all guides it can be adjusted to local knowledge but is generally a good starting point.
If you have a sports event then there is the Green Guide and as a general rule you will require 1 first aider per 1,000 people attending. Ambulances and Doctors may be required for large events.
Staff events will also require cover as per the First Aid at Work Rregulations 1981. This could be the office first aider or an outside person, but they must be available at all times to provide first aid - so they can’t drink at the Christmas party or leaving do!
Most good private ambulance companies can assist you in deciding on the appropriate cover for your particular event, and of course don’t forget the voluntary organisations as these can be cheaper but not always able to help mid week as volunteers work!
If you are planning an event, we will be happy to join the team and ensure that the medical cover is organised so you can continue with the main event. Please contact us for more details.
